The brand was established in 1912 by Carl J. Ballweg in Syracuse, New York. In 1964, William A. Lunsford Jr. — a World War II veteran and licensed funeral director who had worked under Ballweg since 1949 — purchased the business and formally established the Ballweg & Lunsford name. The brand expanded in 1995 with the opening of a second location in LaFayette, New York, approximately ten miles south of Syracuse. Following William Lunsford Jr.'s death in 2007, the firm passed to his grandson, representing more than five decades of continuous family operation under the same name.
