Clark Funeral Home - Versailles is a funeral home in Versailles, Kentucky. It is part of Clark Legacy, a family of funeral home locations serving central Kentucky. The location serves families throughout Versailles and the surrounding Woodford County area with burial services, cremation services, funeral and memorial services, pre-need planning, veterans services including military honors, certified celebrants, and memorial diamonds available through a partner provider.
The business traces its founding to 1915, when D.R. Duell established the first family funeral location in Versailles under the name D.R. Duell Funeral, originally operating from the Sweeny House property in downtown Versailles. In 1946, Duell's son-in-law Dorsey Clark joined the operation, the business was renamed Duell-Clark Funeral Chapel, and the funeral home relocated to its current address on Rose Hill Avenue. David Clark, representing the third generation of family ownership, entered the business in 1973. His son Guy and daughter Linzi both joined the operation in the early 2000s and became licensed funeral directors; in 2007, the Duell name was retired and the business became Clark Funeral Home.
The location operates within the Rose Hill Historic District, where the building itself stands as a notable example of two distinct architectural eras. The structure was originally constructed in 1840 as a one-story Federal-style house featuring Flemish bond brickwork, intact jack arches over the windows, and a fanned main entrance that remains preserved today. In 1907, the property underwent a major architectural transformation under the ownership of the Bohannon family — affluent figures in Woodford County's agricultural, banking, and thoroughbred industries — who added a shingled second story, a sweeping hipped roofline, and a monumental two-story Ionic portico, converting the early Kentucky cottage into a Colonial Revival manor. The funeral home maintains historical archives documenting the community's past, including original ledgers recording local mortality during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic.
The facility includes a chapel, reception and event space, private viewing rooms, and identification viewing accommodations.
Clark Funeral Home - Versailles does not operate an on-site cemetery or an on-site crematory. Licensed grief therapy and legal or estate planning services are not available at this location.
