Spielman Mortuary traces its origins to 1950, when Kenneth and Helen Spielman purchased the National Funeral Home at 344 West University Avenue and renamed it Kenneth F. Spielman Mortuary. The Spielmans operated the business for more than three decades before selling to the Willwerscheid family in 1984, fourth-generation funeral directors in St. Paul, who abbreviated the name to its current form. The building retains much of its original architectural character and is the only remaining active funeral home in the Frogtown neighborhood, making it a rare surviving example of the Midway/Frogtown area's early 20th-century commercial landscape.
The facility includes a chapel, reception and event space, and dedicated areas for identification and private viewings.
Spielman Mortuary does not operate an on-site cemetery or on-site crematory and does not offer pet cremation, licensed grief therapy, or legal and estate planning services.
