The mural was commissioned by original general manager Lowell J. Rhoden and assembled by Seattle and Portland-based architectural glass designer John "Jack" J.G. Nelson using thousands of individual pieces of Italian split marble, Venetian glass tesserae, and gold leaf tiles. The chapel's geometric windows were designed to capture and reflect natural light across the mural's surface.

The facility includes multiple chapels, reception and event space, private viewing rooms, identification viewings, overnight visitation accommodations, and a Tahara room for Jewish ritual preparation.
