Beers and Story - Palmer is a funeral home located in the historic Depot Village neighborhood of Palmer, Massachusetts and serves the greater Springfield area. It is part of Beers and Story, a family of funeral home locations serving Western Massachusetts. The location provides burial services, cremation services, funeral and memorial services, and pre-need planning.
The funeral home operates from a building at 1475 North Main Street originally constructed in 1877 as a private residential home, featuring the sturdy wooden frame craftsmanship characteristic of high-end New England homes of the late Victorian period. In the early 1900s, Bert Beers acquired the property and established the Bert L. Beers Funeral Home. After World War II, veteran Herbert Story joined the firm; in 1950, Beers and Story formed an official partnership under the current name. The business was family-operated across subsequent generations, with Herbert Story's daughter joining the firm in 1984 and a third generation entering the profession in 2001.
The facility includes a chapel and accommodates identification viewings and private viewings. Beers and Story - Palmer does not operate an on-site cemetery or on-site crematory. Pet cremation, licensed grief therapy, and legal or estate planning services are not available at this location.
Families frequently recognize individual staff members by name in reviews, and the Palmer chapel has received specific commendation for its setting and atmosphere.
